EDINBURGH NEW TOWN PLAYFAIR RESIDENCE
THE WORLD OF INTERIORS – OCTOBER 2007
“Probably the hairiest moment during the refurb came with the delivery and installation of a grey marble sarcophagus bath. The floor was deemed unsuitable for its weight and had to be reinforced. Then the size of the bath was deemed too great for it to be winched upstairs, so the main contractors – Laurence McIntosh – had to persuade the police to cordon off the road while a crane lifted the bath up and over the roof and down into a window on the first floor. The sighs of relief could be heard all over Edinburgh afterwards.”
MARTIN WISHART, MICEHLIN-STARRED RESTAURANT, EDINBURGH
HOMES AND INTERIORS SCOTLAND – MARCH & APRIL 2006
“Edinburgh-based timber experts Laurence McIntosh – praised by Ian for a reliably meticulous approach – crafted walnut panelling set in wide planks to the walls, large mirrored panels in between enhancing the sense of volume.”
EDINBURGH NEW TOWN GEORGIAN RESIDENCE
HOMES AND INTERIORS SCOTLAND – SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2006
“Leading off this space is the kitchen, which showcases the talents of cabinetmakers Laurence McIntosh. This company became the main contractor owing to the extent of the cabinet making and tricky trade tasks involved. Along with Room ID, Laurence McIntosh created a kitchen that oozes quality in terms of materials and craftsmanship. The entrance door was moved to maximise space, while a concoction of black walnut, smoked brown glass and white laminate evokes a sense of submergence in a creamy cappuccino.”
HOTEL – STYLE BEDROOM
REAL HOMES – DECEMBER /JANUARY 2008
“When it came to deciding what to replace it with, I took advice from a designer at Laurence McIntosh, a local company that had carried out the work in our Kitchen. They recommended the black macassar ebony wood, which was fabulous, unusual grain markings, even on the back of the furniture. Nearly the entire budget went on the wood so it was a big investment, but a worthwhile one because it should last.”
VINCAFFE
HOMES AND INTERIORS SCOTLAND – JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2005
“The company was the main contractor for the project, and the walnut detailing throughout is of exquisite quality. While the flooring and stairs are laid in American black walnut the walls of the stairwell and entrance to the restaurant are clad in European walnut panelling.”
THE SCOTSMAN – DECEMBER 4 2004
“The décor is modern Milano; all clean lines, rich wood and sparkling glass. This could have been a dull and soulless modern place, but a long and glamorous bar, and two smaller, subdivided rooms create a flowing geometry.”
HOMES PLUS SCOTLAND – MARCH & APRIL 2005
“Stylish dining is the name of the game at VinCaffe in Edinburgh and Laurence McIntosh, who created the interior continue to receive plaudits for their involvement. Along with the excellent food reviews, the restaurant’s interior has also received acclaim from critics, who have admired the quality of the design and finish.”
CURVE CENTRE
25 BEAUTIFUL KITCHENS – NOVEMBER 2006
“Designer David MacDonald at Laurence McIntosh created curved walnut cabinetry to fit the circular timber-clad extension. The bespoke cabinets maximise storage and prep space along the curved wall, while the rest of the design is geared towards cooking.”
SPACE SAVERS
25 BEAUTIFUL KITCHENS – OCTOBER 2006
“The Client was looking for a skilled cabinetmaker able to interpret her ideas for a real ‘cook’s’ kitchen, so her Architect suggested Laurence McIntosh. ‘We wanted top workmanship and saw that this company produces furniture of the highest standard and finish,’.”
GAYFIELD PLACE
UPTOWN – FEBRUARY AND MARCH 2005
“The skirtings, architraves and timber wall panelling were all custom-made for the space, but it is pieces like the twin macassar ebony cabinets in the drawing room, and the tall oak dresser in the dining kitchen, that really catch the eye, and display the beautiful craftsmanship for which Laurence McIntosh has made its name.”
SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY (AT HOME) – OCTOBER 24 2004
“Walking into the impressive hallway with its Caithness stone floor, feature arches and cornicing, and the stunning European Walnut mirror and cantilevered shelf below, the ‘before’ version of this property is a distant memory. The overall impression is a space that combines refined elegance with freshness and modernity in the palette and materials.”
BONNINGTON HOUSE
HOMES AND INTERIORS SCOTLAND – NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 2003
“With its wonderful, ornately carved wooden fireplace and restored panelling, the dining room is testament to the skills of the main contractor, Laurence McIntosh.”
