Q&A

What do you love about your job?

I love the problem-solving aspect of being presented with a particular requirement either by a client or architect and being tasked with finding a practical and effective solution. There’s also the joy in seeing space be transformed or created from nothing into something spectacular.

What been the highlight of your career thus far?

One of my favourite projects was a year long conversion of a 5 story townhouse in Edinburgh’s New Town. The technicalities that this project presented due to the clients imaginative requirements, was nothing short of challenging but one I thrived on and one of which I’m very proud of the finished result.

What do you wish you knew when you began your career that you know now?

How valuable exceptionally skilled tradesmen are.  Since the age of technical advances, we’ve seen a decline in truly talented individuals in the building trade, none more so than when you work on projects at the top end of the market, good people are hard to find.  Thankfully we have a strong, tight team of people we use on almost all of our projects and they know the high standards we hold ourselves to.

What are you excited about in joining the LM team?

I’m excited about the types of projects I can bring to the company and with the outstanding facilities and expertise we have here, the level to which we can deliver them.  It’s often hard to know how you can improve on an already enviable product and reputation but we have some good ideas as to where we want to take the company over the coming years, its important not to stand still.

If you didn’t live in Edinburgh where would you live?

Perth, Australia.

What are you passionate about out with the construction industry?

Sports; rugby, golf and motorbikes.

George – Quantity Surveyor

Having qualified a Quantity Surveyor, George firstly worked for a firm of Professional Quantity Surveyors before moving into contracting, gaining experience in industrial, volume housebuilding, residential and commercial projects. He recently spent some time estimating for a commercial builder and thus brings a wide range of valuable experience to the Laurence McIntosh team.
