Our 20,000sq/ft state-of-the-art workshop facility in the heart of Edinburgh is home to our talented team of craftspeople, employing time honoured traditional techniques in a 21st century setting.

At Laurence McIntosh, our Principal Contracting service marries our committed to craft with rigorous project management. Our seasoned in-house team combines with an enviable black book of artisans, all delivering the seamless execution of commercial and private projects, from entirely new builds to heritage restorations.

We believe the success of our projects lie in the professional planning, managing, monitoring and co-ordinating of the construction process both within the agreed timeframe and budget.

Much of this relies on our effective communication with the client and principal design team.  Our attention to detail both administratively and in the spaces we create see us deliver beyond our clients expectations, making the construction phase as effective and enjoyable as possible. Where possible we provide all trades in house however when we must outsource a specialist skill we passionately ensure all contributors to our projects uphold our values with skills, knowledge and experience that exceed the exacting standards we set ourselves.

With a strong heritage in traditional building methods, Laurence McIntosh expertly combines modern construction practices with a deep respect for listed and heritage buildings. We’ve delivered exceptional transformations such as extensions on Grade A listed country houses in Edinburgh, supplying everything from specialist stone and plasterwork to custom timber fittings bespoke to each site.

Since 1947, our architectural joinery practice at Laurence McIntosh has maintained a strong focus on craft, precision, and innovation. From replicating original period features in listed buildings to cutting edge contemporary design, we transform responsibly sourced timber into exquisite pieces of bespoke furniture, doors, flooring, panelling and cabinetry for the finest country retreats to luxury penthouse apartments.

Our cabinet makers employing time honoured traditional techniques within our new 20,000 sq. foot state of the art workshop facilities to produce outstanding craftsmanship that has secured us prestigious commercial projects such as The Mackintosh library at the Glasgow School of Art and the cabinetry which showcases the world’s largest whisky collection at The Scotch Whisky Experience.

We enjoy strong relationships with clients and successful collaborations with architects and interior designers from around the country.

We produce and install bespoke architectural joinery for both residential and commercial environments, offering a wide range of custom elements tailored to each space. These include interior and exterior doors, including fire-rated options; wall panelling and mouldings, with accurate replication for heritage properties; staircases, balustrades and thresholds crafted with structural integrity and refinement; and flooring in both engineered and solid timber. We also create cabinetry and fitted furniture for living rooms, studies, dressing areas and more, along with display joinery for cultural and retail settings such as museum exhibits and specialist retail fixtures.

Our team collaborates closely with clients, architects and designers, managing everything from material sourcing to installation oversight. This integrated approach ensures a seamless realisation of design intent—across lighting, textiles, joinery and finishes—anchored in high-end craftsmanship.

Our interior design service encompasses everything from lighting design and specification—working with skilled makers to create atmosphere—to textiles and material consultation, where fabrics and surfaces are chosen to reflect the project’s vision. We offer thoughtful colour consultancy to develop palettes that enhance spatial quality, alongside the design and delivery of bespoke fitted and freestanding furniture, including fully tailored luxury kitchens. Our team also manages procurement and project coordination from end to end, ensuring every element—from furnishings to finishes—is selected and installed with precision.
