Ardoch, by Moxton Architects, Wins the Laurence McIntosh Interior Design Award at the 2024 RIAS Ceremony

Congratulations to Moxon Architects for Ardoch, winner of this year’s Laurence McIntosh Special Category Award for Architectural Interior at the RIAS 2024 Awards.

David MacDonald, Director, Laurence McIntosh, commented:

“We are proud to support and celebrate such innovative and inspiring projects that push the boundaries of architectural design and sustainability.  Ardoch exemplifies a remarkable blend of traditional and contemporary methods.

“Congratulations to all those shortlisted and the winners across various categories for their outstanding contributions to the field.”

After a decade of meticulous reconstruction and replanting, this hillside farm overlooking the River Dee in  the Cairngorms National Park, Ardoch has been beautifully restored and reimagined for 21st-century living.

Ardoch’s transformation involved repurposing each of the site’s five main buildings, enhancing them with modern energy efficiency standards while preserving their local character. The restored but’n’ben farmhouse is complemented by a former byre, now serving as additional study/living space and guest accommodation, and a sensitively converted two-storey steading, previously used to winter sheep, is now a private studio for one of the clients, an artist and designer.

Laurence McIntosh of Edinburgh has provided an unsurpassed joinery and cabinet making service since 1947. We cherish our craft and embrace innovation, delivering exceptional projects throughout the UK and Europe in the fields of main contracting, architectural joinery, interior design, and cabinetmaking.
