Now fully installed within a historic country house in the North East of Scotland, this beautifully curved library has been seamlessly integrated into its new setting. Working to a design by architects GLM, the team at Laurence McIntosh brought the vision to life with exceptional craftsmanship and a deep understanding of traditional joinery. The result is a refined and timeless addition that feels entirely at home in its architectural context, offering warmth, elegance, and quiet grandeur. The project stands as a testament to the strength of thoughtful collaboration between architect and maker.
The library has a secret door, flawlessly integrated to maintain the elegance and flow of the space. The book-to-pull mechanism is a carefully selected volume discreetly positioned among the shelves. Pulling this book triggers the concealed door to open, revealing what lies beyond. With a fully electric concealed opening and timed closing mechanisms, the door operates with precision and subtlety, embodying both artistry and practicality.
